2012 West Coast Scooter Trip

CA - Lassen Volcanic National Park

We stopped at the visitor center at Lassen and watched a 30 minute film on the park geology, very interesting. We entered on the South end of the park and drove to the North end where we stayed that the Manzanita Campground. The scenery along the way was fantastic. A lot of the areas of the park were still not open because of the remaining snow. We stopped at the Sulphur Works area (mud bubbling up releasing sulphur gas) and many vista points on the 20+ mile road through the park. There was considerable snow yet along the roadway and in the hills above 8000 feet. The highest pass (8512 feet) had only been open a week or so. We were going to lay over here a day and we (or at least me) were going to climb Lassen Peak (10,457 feet) but the route to the peak was closed because of the remaining snow. I am not sure if that was a good thing or not..... In any event, no climb this trip. Click on any of the thumbnail pictures to see an expanded view.
